Overview
JOB TITLE: Human Resources Officer (HRO) DEPARTMENT: Human Resources & Administration LOCATION: St Lucia
SUMMARY OBJECTIVES
  • The Human Resource position is responsible for the provision of generalist HR support in all aspects of HR including management of employee relations matters, training and performance management across the organization. The position formulates partnerships across the HR function to deliver value-added service to management and employees that reflects the business objectives of the organization.



MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Acts as a liaison between employer and employee, overseeing employee relations.
  2. Provides guidance and makes recommendations to managers related to disciplinary procedures, grievance procedures and employee relations matters.
  3. Conducts investigations and fact finding on Employee Relations issues, including gathering and analyzing evidence and assisting with managing disciplinary hearings.
  4. Manages and resolves complex employee relations issues.
  5. Reviews and approves employee disciplinary actions, such as written reprimands, suspension or termination letters.
  6. Consults with all levels of employees, providing HR guidance when appropriate.
  7. Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  8. Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to management (e.g. coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary action, performance improvement plans).
  9. Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
  10. Identifies training needs for business units and individual coaching needs.
  11. Assists in developing and delivering policies, programs, and training consistent with company needs.
  12. Participates in evaluation and monitoring of training programs to ensure success. Follows up to ensure training objectives are met.
  13. Advertises positions, identifies and communicates with potential candidates, conduct interviews, perform employment verification and background checks and assists with notifying candidates with their decision.
  14. Assist with the processing of payroll.
  15. Any other duties assigned within job scope.

  • Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations and policies.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to deliver results to demanding deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times, stressful environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Competence to build and effectively manage interpersonal relationships at all levels of the company.



EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience resolving complex employee relations issues.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional level experience in human resources.
  • Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including Employee and Industrial Relations, performance management, payroll management, training and employment law and HR best practice.
  • Knowledge of common HR software Systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field.
  • Strong math skills with an ability to spot numerical errors.
  • Proven work experience as a Payroll Officer, Payroll Clerk or similar role.
  • Proven experience managing or supervising various aspects of the Human Resource function.
  • Experience working within a unionized environment is desired.
