Applicants are invited to fill the following vacant position at St. Jude Hospital:
𝐋𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭
𝐐𝐔𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐅𝐈𝐂𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐄𝐗𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄
𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞:
Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology with major in Histology, Clinical Chemistry, Clinical Microbiology, Clinical Hematology and Blood banking, as well as five (5) years of experience, in a hospital lab management supervision.
Understands and supervises all aspects of the laboratory Department. Responsible for scheduling of employees and creating rosters, outlining work stations, assignment of daily duties and specific tasks to be accomplished by employees.
Supervises the daily activities of the anatomical and clinical laboratory sections, including quality control and workflow, and reports all deficiencies to his/her Supervisor, the 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐫 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫.
Tests new and improved laboratory methods and procedures. Prepares laboratory notes, charts and graphs and writes up results of examinations.
Responsible for consulting with his/her Supervisor, the 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐫 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 on all laboratories activities; participates in the performance of services within the laboratory and suggests changes and improvements to his/her Supervisor, the 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐫 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫.
Develops and prepares the annual laboratory budget and maintains control of lab costs. Prepares and submits statistical and monthly reports for the Laboratory Department. Keeps accurate daily records.
Keeps an up-to-date inventory of instruments and supplies. Prepares and signs all purchase requisitions; keeps file of all departmental requisitions issued. Keeps all files on receiving reports.
Prepares all requests for maintenance repairs. Consults with his/her Supervisor, the Pathologist or Medical Director and Purchasing Manager on repairs required.
Responsible for the prompt issuance of reports generated by the laboratory services
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Excellent managerial, supervisory and organizational skills.
Excellent Human Relation skills.
A valid driver’s license would be an asset.
Computer literate with ability to work in Microsoft Office, Access, Excel, Word.
Knowledge on use of current laboratory equipment, methods, measurements, facilities, material, practices and ability to perform standardized biological, chemical, and microbiological examinations independently.
Ability to apply knowledge of information sources in biology, microbiology, chemistry and scientific methodology.
Ability to record scientific observations accurately; prepares and presents scientific records and reports.
Skill in safely and successfully performing laboratory testing, conversions, titration, chemical analysis and pH ranges.
Knowledge of hospital health laboratory laws and safety regulations and procedures.
Salary will be paid in accordance with the terms stipulated by the Government of St. Lucia in the Estimates of Expenditure commensurate with experience and qualifications for the post.
