Forty-eight (48) Saint Lucians will embark on a transformative academic journey to the Republic of China (Taiwan) in late August, pursuing higher education across a diverse range of disciplines.

The scholars received their official scholarship documents during a recent ceremony at the Finance Administrative Centre, attended by Minister in the Ministry of Education, Youth Development, Sports and Digital Transformation, Honourable Danny Butcher; Deputy Permanent Secretary Althea Emmanuel; Saint Lucia’s Ambassador to the Republic of China (Taiwan), His Excellency Robert Lewis; and Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to Saint Lucia, Her Excellency Nicole Su.

This year’s group represents a historic milestone as the largest cohort of Saint Lucian scholars ever to depart for Taiwan. It also marks the first time that full gender parity has been achieved, with the cohort comprising twnty-four (24) young men and twenty-four (24) young women.

Addressing the scholars, Minister Butcher conveyed the profound gratitude of the Government and people of Saint Lucia to the Government and people of Taiwan for an enduring and meaningful partnership that continues to expand educational opportunities for Saint Lucian citizens.

Through this scholarship programme, countless young Saint Lucians have gained access to life-changing academic and professional experiences; opportunities that have strengthened individual lives while contributing meaningfully to the educational, professional and socioeconomic development of our nation.

As these Forty- eight (48) scholars prepare to represent Saint Lucia abroad, they carry with them not only their personal ambitions, but also the hopes of their families, communities and country.

We congratulate them on this remarkable achievement and encourage them to pursue excellence with discipline, purpose and national pride. May they return equipped with the knowledge, experience and vision to help shape an even stronger Saint Lucia.

Your journey begins with education. Your impact will be measured by how you use it to serve and uplift others.
