Minister for Home Affairs, Justice, and National Security, Sen. Hon. Hermangild Francis, has lauded officers of the Saint Lucia Fire Service, for their dedicated service.
The Home Affairs, Justice and National Security Minister said the men and women of the Saint Lucia Fire Service (SLFS) continue to perform their duties with distinction under the most trying circumstances.
In order to address some of the dire issues confronting the fire officers, the Government of Saint Lucia will continue to undertake projects and initiatives at fire stations on the island.
According to Sen. Francis, during the new financial year, the government will be expending resources to address several priority areas within the SLFS, some of which include revisiting the Standard Operating Procedures, the promotion policy, and allowances for officers acting in higher positions. The granting of more autonomy to the Fire Chief in dealing with certain disciplinary matters, and the construction of a new fire service headquarters are two other priority areas for the Department of National Security.
Over the last financial year fire officers embarked on several training exercises, two of which included swift water training which was done in collaboration with the Bordelais Correctional Facility, and training in legal court procedures, facilitated by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The Home Affairs and National Security Minister has promised continuous professional development training for members of the Saint Lucia Fire Service.
