CHIEF PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT/DESTINATION SERVICES OFFICER

I. EMPLOYEE SPECIFICATIONS

Education: Master’s Degree in Marketing or Business Administration or B. Sc. Degree in Marketing or Business Administration plus a post-graduate diploma
Experience: Minimum of seven years of experience in the tourism industry; minimum of five years experience in a management level position. Comprehensive knowledge of Saint Lucia’s tourism product
Skills: Computer literate, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, proven leadership and management skills
Personal Qualities: Conscientious, innovative, adaptable and creative with high service standards

II. REPORTING AND ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
Supervises: Product Development/Destination Services staff
Liaises with: Internally All Departments
Externally Private sector, Public sector, contractors, local, regional and international organizations
III. JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Summary: Responsible for developing and implementing the Authority’s strategy for product development and destination services and for developing and leading the destination services team
Responsibilities:
Strategic Direction
  • Participates in development of the Authority’s strategic plan
  • Monitors and reports on implementation of the strategic plan as it relates to destination services
  • Advises the Chief Executive Officer on industry changes affecting the Authority’s strategies
Plan for Product Development/Destination Services
  • Develops an annual plan that takes into account the quality of the tourism product, the areas of the destination that require upgrading and the need to diversify product offerings
  • Prepares an annual work programme and budget to implement the annual plan
  • Ensures effective implementation of the work programme within the budget
Improving Product Quality and Diversification
  • Works in collaboration with the Research and Strategic Planning staff to develop effective methods for collecting and analyzing visitor information
  • Collaborates with the Bureau of Standards to ensure standards are set for the industry that meet international benchmarks
  • Oversees the licensing of tourism service providers
  • Works with public and private sector officials on issues such as safety and security, local transportation and amenities
  • Collaborates with the Ministry of Tourism, local operators and communities to identify and develop creative and innovative products and services
Upgrading Destination Services
  • Develops education and training services for tourism service providers
  • Develops and oversees delivery of public awareness programmes
  • Engages Government Departments, NGOs and local communities to assist in organizing site upgrades, beautification projects and hosting of local events
Supervision
  • Establishes annual performance objectives with staff; meets with them periodically to discuss their performance; counsels them on efficiencies in performance and guides them on improving performance, including recommending additional training
  • Conducts an annual appraisal of their performance
  • Coordinates the work of staff and reviews their work to ensure that it meets the Port Authority’s standards
  • Makes recommendations to management regarding salary increases, promotions and disciplinary action for employees supervised

  • Accepts other related duties as assigned from time to time
