BUDGET & REPORTING ASSISTANT
JOB SUMMARY
To assist the Company to improve efficiency, maintain a balanced budget and enable quarterly forecasting by analysing income and expenses, compiling the annual budget and financial reports and reconciling accounts, in keeping with international financial reporting standards (IFRS), for internal and external use.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Assists in the annual budget preparation, accompanying the Financial Reporting Accountant when meeting with budget personnel, programme personnel and management representatives to gather and provide information to facilitate accurate and complete projections for the upcoming fiscal year;
- Assists in the maintenance of a balanced budget by monitoring expenditure against approved budget to ensure funds are expended in accordance with the law, regulations and policies of the Company;
- Conducts budgetary variance analysis by querying the accounting records and liaising with heads of departments/sections to determine cause of variance and to prepare reports to facilitate the development of strategies to reduce adverse variances;
- Conducts quarterly review of forecasted financial results, liaising with department/section heads on projected expenses for remaining months of fiscal year to compile reforecast results and prepare the relevant reports to enable a more strategic view of the performance of the Company;
- Records accrual for certain expenses not recorded in the company’s accounts payable, ensuring accuracy and completeness in order that financial statements show a true and fair view of the company's financial results and position;
- Manages prepayments including insurances, software licences, among others, to ensure accurate recording of amounts and to ensure costs involved are charged to the correct accounting period;
- Accounts for the Company’s post-retirement benefits in accordance with the international financial reporting standards (IFRS) to ensure the accurate recording of the assets and liabilities associated with the retirement benefit plans;
- Conducts quarterly and annual corporate tax computation by collecting all relevant information to determine the income that is chargeable to tax, for filing at end of year taxes;
- Prepares the Company’s annual rate of return and undertakes the related investigation of queries and analysis for filing with, and to facilitate full and fair disclosure to the Regulatory Authority;
- Assists in the preparation of analysis and reports for the compilation of Annual Report, ensuring all the relevant financial information are accurate and completed within agreed timelines;
- Produces ad hoc reports and information as may be required by external users and management from time to time, to enable informed decision making;
- Remains current in the knowledge of accounting by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations to assist in streamlining accounting processes;
- Performs any other job-related duties as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Bachelors’ Degree in Accounting/Level 2 ACCA or its equivalent plus a minimum of three (3) years’ relevant experience.KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Proficient in the knowledge of data analysis, financial forecasting, budget development and financial analysis;
- Sound knowledge of and ability to interpret Company policies and standard operating procedures and relevant international financial reporting standards;
- Broad job knowledge and/or technical expertise relevant to the job, and quality of advice provided;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Ability to interpret, extract and analyze financial information;
- Excellent organization and problem-solving skills;
- Ability to prepare budgets, accounting schedules and reports;
- Excellent attention to detail;
- Strong team player with effective interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence;
- Strong computer literacy skills; advanced Microsoft Excel skills, ability to manipulate software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases and presentation programmes and comprehensive knowledge of JDE Software;
- Ability to take initiative, successfully handle and prioritize multiple competing priorities, and effectively manage deadlines;
- Ability to integrate Company core values throughout all business practices;
- Ability to effectively develop and maintain relationships with management, staff, and stakeholders at all levels.
