Automotive Paint Technician / Apprentice
Assist the Senior Paint Technician in the preparation and mixing of automotive paints.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible: for ensuring accurate color matching for spray jobs
- Formula Retrieval: Look up vehicle paint codes using a computerized manufacturer database.
- Precision Mixing: Weigh, measure and mix primers, base coats, clear coats and hardeners according to the exact technical specifications.
- Custom Blending: Adjust formulas by eye or software to account for factory variances.
- Test Panels: Spray small test cards to verify color accuracy and coverage before releasing paint to spray technicians.
- Inventory Control: Monitor stock levels of toners, clear coats, reducers, mixing supplies and placing orders to avoid shop downtime.
- Hazardous Material Safety: Maintain a clean, organized mixing room and follow strict environmental laws for chemical storage.
Job Requirements and Qualifications
- Experience: A mature person with automotive paint mixing skills or someone who is interested in learning.
- Technical Literacy: Proficiency with computer software applications.
- Mathematical Skills: Strong basic math skill for calculating mixing ratios, fractions and weights.
- Attention To Detail: Extreme precision when handling small metric measurements.
- Physical Demands: Ability to stand for long periods and lift paint materials.
- Safety Compliance: Willingness to wear required PPE, including respirators and safety glasses.
Preferred Skills
- Proficiency in basic paint mixing
- Experience working in the automobile industry
- Computer literate
- Familiar with QuickBooks accounting software
