LANSIQUOT EMPHASIZED THE IMPORTANCE OF UNDERSTANDING THE PROCESSES AVAILABLE TO BOTH WORKERS AND EMPLOYERS BEFORE WORKPLACE DISAGREEMENTS ESCALATE…

Stronger workplace relations begin with knowledge, communication and meaningful dialogue. 

That was the focus of the Department of Labour’s engagement with shop stewards of the National Workers Union (NWU) during the Union’s 2026 Industrial Forum, held earlier this month at the John Burke King Industrial Academy, Sans Souci, Castries.

Deputy Labour Commissioner Mr. Nicolai Lansiquot delivered a presentation on “Industrial Conciliation Roles and Responsibilities within the Department of Labour,” providing participants with greater insight into the conciliation process and the Department’s role in helping employers and workers address workplace disputes constructively.

Mr. Lansiquot emphasized the importance of understanding the processes available to both workers and employers before workplace disagreements escalate. “Industrial relations work best when there is a clear understanding of rights, responsibilities and the mechanisms available to resolve disputes. Our role is not simply to respond when conflict arises, but to support dialogue and encourage parties to find constructive solutions,” Mr. Lansiquot noted.

The Department of Labour, Mr. Lansiquot notes, remains steadfast in its commitment to strengthening industrial relations through education, engagement and effective dispute resolution, while promoting workplaces where concerns can be addressed through informed and respectful dialogue.
