Dunnottar School & Vocational Centre - Special Education Teacher
- Provide support, care and education for students with multiple disabilities. This includes assistance in toileting and changing of diapers, feeding, dressing, movement/mobility.
- Collaborate with other classroom teachers, parents and specialists to provide an integrated plan for developing the capacities of students.
- Assess students abilities, set learning goals, assess progress, and record their evaluations.
- Develop and implement annual Individualized Educational Plans (IEP) for students to include: present levels of educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals and objectives, and the special education and related services required to meet those goals.
- Coordinate the delivery of special education services in each student's IEP.
- Update parents on the progress of their students and enlist parental support with behaviour control and home activities designed to supplement their classroom lessons.
- Supervise and support teaching assistants.
- Help plan for the transition of students to productive lives after the completion of programme.
Knowledge Skills and Ability Required:
- Minimum of 5 CXC passes, including mathematics and English, plus at least 2 yearsโ experience working with children with developmental disabilities or in the field of early childhood education.OR Bachelorโs degree in early childhood education, special education, psychology or related field and at least 1 year experience working with students with disabilities or in the field of early childhood education.
OR Bachelorโs degree in General nursing with at least 1 year practices experience.
- Ability to effectively analyse needs and problems objectively.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, students, parents, staff, administration and the general public.
- Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program.
- Willing and able to assist in the movement, positioning, massaging and lifting of students with physical disabilities when needed.
- Knowledge of relevant technology including the use of technology to individualize instruction.
- Must have the ability and proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis.
