The Cultural Development Foundation (CDF) officially launches its 2018 Summer Program

by Jacques Hinkson-Compton
The CDF hopes to enlighten school aged children on various aspects of the island’s art forms,
history and cultural heritage.

Executive Director (Ag) of CDF, Raymona Henry Wynne says, while economics and industry drive material development, culture develops and nurtures the mind.

The CDF is constantly seeking innovative and deliberate strategies to better serve its communities via the arts and culture medium and as a platform to better equip our young minds to appreciate what it means to be St.Lucian,”

The program, entitled “ArtsFuzion : Building cultural awareness, nurturing artistic and creative expression, celebrating youth,” contains three main components. Each component will be hosted in different parts of the island.

The components are the Steel Pan training program, the Southern Summer Arts Program and the Youth Summer Arts Program

Director of Training Development and Promotion, Celeste Burton, notes the significance of endowing the youth with knowledge of their cultural heritage.

“Recognising the importance of ensuring our youth learn about the culture, learn about the history of the culture of St.Lucia and engage in the various art forms, we at the CDF are constantly trying to remain relevant in this global village that we live in and constantly trying to encourage youth and motivate them because we recognize also that there are so many influences from outside. This is inevitable, it is not a criticism in any way but it is important for us to know what is St.Lucian, what is truly and authentically St.Lucian and continue to appreciate that and to love it,”

The Steel pan training program and the Youth Summer Arts program targets children aged 8 to 17 while the Southern Summer Arts program targets children aged 6 to 17.

Each program commences on July 19, 2018.
