Herb Black, one of Saint Lucia’s most formidable calypsonians celebrated a milestone in Calypso this year, in his hometown, Anse La Raye.
Herbie and Friends – The Legacy Concert, was a calypso showpiece held on Friday, May 25. The event was a joint effort between the Anse La Raye Fish Fri Committee and the TOT/Soca Village International.
Cecil Charles, manager of the Calypso tent said: “Herb Black this year celebrates 32 years in calypso, so the event was filled with a lot of vintage, timeless calypsos, along with new songs that some of our artistes will be putting out at the opening on June 6.”
The Herbie and Friends concert was endorsed by the Parliamentary Representative for Anse La Raye and Canaries, Hon. Dominic Fedee, who is also the Minister with responsibility for Tourism, Information and Broadcasting.
“Herb Black is an iconic figure. He is tenacious, has performed well, and has remained relevant for 32 years. It is a very special feat that requires a special individual, and he should be commended.”
Minister Fedee also commended the efforts of the Anse La Raye Fish Fri Committee, and the vendors for the resurgence of the Anse La Raye Fish Fri event.
Herbie and Friends – The Legacy Concert featured more than twenty performers including Wally, Invader, Black Pearl, Lady Leen, Dennis James, Ambi, Lil Nick and Alpha.
