DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS BETWEEN COLOMBIA AND SAINT LUCIA ARE REAFFIRMED.

Colombian Ambassador, His Excellency, Admiral Roberto Garcia Marquez, recently presented his credentials to Saint Lucia.

The ambassador said Colombia has made strides towards achieving peace, and hopes to explore possibilities for collaboration with Saint Lucia in the areas of trade and security.

“In pursuit of the building of our nation project, we have endeavored against many challenges and we have succeeded,” he said. “After years of struggle, today Colombia is a country full of energy and promise. After five years of intense negotiations, the longest running armed conflict in the Americas has ended. The peace agreement signed between the Colombian government and the revolutionary armed forces finally materialized. We thank the generosity of the international community for supporting Colombia in achieving peace and ensuring that Colombia is an example of liberty and a nation where the rule of law is paramount. We will continue to do our part to preserve the planet for the future generations.”

His Excellency, Sir Emmanuel Neville Cenac expressed that Saint Lucia depends mainly on tourism and will spare no effort to ensure that the peace and security we have always enjoyed remains undisturbed. The governor general reaffirmed Saint Lucia’s support towards Colombia and conveyed his best wishes for peace and stability in Colombia.

“Washed by the same Caribbean waters, and as members of that wonderful institution the United Nations, Saint Lucia, as it did in the worst of times for you, stands erectly with Colombia, smiling as economic growth manifests itself on the horizon, for the good and happiness for your people,” Sir Neville said.

Ambassador-designate of Colombia to Saint Lucia, His Excellency, Admiral Roberto Garcia Marquez, presented credentials on Feb. 18, at the Government House.
