TO DATE, 365 METERS OF GUARDRAILS HAVE BEEN INSTALLED AROUND THE ISLAND.

The Minister for Infrastructure, Hon. Stephenson King, issued a brief statement yesterday on the progress of Saint Lucia’s Road Safety Programme.

The minister said strides made since the inception of the project are noteworthy.

“As Minister for Infrastructure, I am happy to report significant progress with our Road Safety Programme, as the government strives to make Saint Lucia’s roads safer than ever,” he said. “To date, 365 meters of vehicular guardrails have been installed in key locations around the island; we have implemented a public recommendation for increased road signs islandwide; and work to enhance road markings along all major roads is ongoing. These soft traffic measures are vital to keep our roads safe for all commuters, and minimize accident risks.”

Minister King drew particular attention to the installation of guardrails at key locations, essential to citizen and visitor safety.

“I am particularly pleased that we have successfully installed vehicular guardrails along the west coast, in the area where we lost the late 2004 Calypso Queen, Jany Williams. This project was long over-due,” he said.

Mr. King added that the Ministry of Infrastructure will continue to pursue projects that will have the most cogent impact on citizens and visitors alike.
