The Department of Education, Innovation and Gender Relations informs of the call for applications for the Organisation of American States (OAS)/The University of the West Indies 2019 Scholarship to complete the last two (2) years of a Bachelor’s Degree programme in a variety of areas, except for those of the Faculties of Law and Medical Sciences.

 


Scholarship Overview

 

Programme :

 

ALL undergraduate programmes, except for those of the Faculties of Law and Medical Sciences

 

Open to students who are or will enroll at UWI to complete the last two years of a Bachelor’s degree program beginning August 2019

 

Modality      :         Onsite in Barbados, Jamaica or Trinidad and Tobago

 

Language    :         English

 

Duration     :         1 to 2 years

 

Deadlines    :         Application for admission: June 4, 2019

 

                             Application for scholarship: June 30, 2019

 

Start Date   :         August 2019

 

Value/Benefits of the Scholarship

 

The UWI will charge a maximum of USD$6,000.00 to cover the tuition fees per year. Should the cost of the programme of study be less than the total scholarship amount, the UWI and OAS will cover the lesser amount as billed by UWI

 

The OAS General Secretariat (GS/OAS) shall provide a one-time tuition allowance of a maximum of USD$4,000 to the top ranked OAS-UWI Scholarship recipients.

 

Scholarship benefits are subject to the academic performance of the scholarship recipients and based on the availability of funds.  In order to receive these benefits, the awardee should not be reported with an unsatisfactory academic performance due to absences or failing courses.

 


Expenses not Covered by the Scholarship

 

Remaining cost of tuition fees;

Travel expenses (to and from the country of study);

Mandatory university fees;

Cost of books and study materials;

Health insurance;

Cost of living expenses;

Graduation expenses;

Visa expenses (where applicable); and

Any other costs not covered by the scholarship

Eligibility Requirements

 

To be eligible for selection an applicant must:

 

be a citizen and/or permanent legal resident of Saint Lucia;

provide an unconditional admission letter to the University of the West Indies

submit a complete scholarship application with all required supporting documents

be in good physical and mental health to complete the programme successfully

possess the language competency to undertake studies in the language of the institution or country of study;

possess the educational background and, if required, professional experience to be accepted into the requested academic programme;

Agree to the obligation to return and reside in the sponsoring country or permanent legal residence for at least the length of the duration of the scholarship;

select an area of study listed on the “Government of Saint Lucia List of Priority Areas for National Training”, which can be accessed on the Government of Saint Lucia website.




The following applicants are ineligible:

 

Current OAS scholarship recipients;

GS/OAS staff and their immediate relatives or GS/OAS consultants; and

OAS Permanent officials and their immediate relatives.
