The Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards (SLBS), in partnership with the Ministry of Equity, Labour, Gender, Elderly Affairs, Social Justice and Consumer Welfare, brought early Holiday cheer to families in the Bisee community with the donation of 17 Christmas hampers to vulnerable households.

The hampers, filled with essential groceries and holiday items, were recently handed over to the Ministry of Equity. Through the Ministry’s Community Development Unit, families in genuine need were identified to ensure the support reached those who would benefit most.

Although best known for its technical and regulatory work, the SLBS stepped beyond its usual role to make a direct and meaningful contribution to community well-being. The initiative aimed to ease the financial pressure many families face during the holiday season and to help them prepare for the holiday season with greater comfort and peace of mind.

Social Transformation Officer, Shalina Mann-Eleuthere, welcomed the collaboration, noting that the timing of the support was especially important. She explained that the early delivery of the hampers gave families some much-needed relief and allowed them to look forward to the season with dignity and hope.

The effort was also a reflection of teamwork within the SLBS itself. Head of Department – HR and Training, Eurisca Chandler, shared that staff from all four sports houses worked together to assemble the hampers. Their combined efforts not only provided practical assistance to families but also strengthened unity and camaraderie among staff during the holiday season.

Director of the SLBS, Verne Emmanuel, said the initiative reflected the organisation’s commitment to compassion and service. He expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Equity for its partnership and highlighted the importance of statutory bodies playing an active role in supporting communities.

The SLBS and the Ministry of Equity, Labour, Gender, Elderly Affairs, Social Justice and Consumer Welfare continue to demonstrate that when organisations work together, even small acts of kindness can make a meaningful difference in the lives of families, especially during the festive season.
