THE BORDELAIS CORRECTIONAL FACILITY (BCF) EXTENDS CONDOLENCES TO ALL THE BEREAVED.

Following three fatal incidents at the Bordelais Correctional Facility (BCF) between September 16, and September 29, 2021 the institution’s director Mr. Hilary Herman is reporting that the facility remains resilient and dedicated   to the safety and security of both staff and inmates.

Following a meeting on Friday, October 01, which was presided over by the Minister for Home Affairs Honourable Virginia Albert Poyotte, the BCF director    expressed optimism that the facility is being supported in overcoming   its perennial challenges including some operational changes that will in short order address some of the areas requiring critical attention.

Apart from addressing management and security concerns, the BCF is also   addressing the trauma that both inmates and staff may have experienced in recent times. “We have had counsellors on compound to speak with    inmates and officers who were in the vicinity of any of the tragic incidents that occurred recently.  We have a   volunteer   from a civil society organization   and the Employee Assistance Programme within the Public Service is also providing the counselling support.  It has been well received and we really thank the counsellors for that. We are   placing a high priority on the healing process right now” explained Mr. Herman.

The Bordelais Correctional Facility continues to work closely with family members as regards the burial of their loved ones. “We are communicating with them. We would appreciate   and recognize that    they have lost a loved one. In at least one of the matters the burial arrangements   is fairly advanced,” said Mr. Herman said.

In a September like no other in the BCF’s history, misfortune visited three times.  On September 16, forty-five-year-old inmate Kevin ‘Goats’ or ‘Carlos’ Wilson was found unresponsive in his cell.  He was on the mental health case list of the correctional facility. Twenty-one-year-old Noah Peter was stabbed and critically injured on   Wednesday, September 15 and passed away on Saturday September 18, 2021. Yohan Henry, a 23-year-old serving time, was the victim of an industrial accident in the tailor shop and sustained serious injuries. He was pronounced dead by a medical doctor.

The Bordelais Correctional Facility (BCF) extends condolences to all the bereaved.
