THE AWARDS PROMOTE A CULTURE OF ACCOUNTABILITY, INNOVATION AND CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT.

Excellence, innovation, and dedication to public service were celebrated at the second edition of Saint Lucia’s Budget Implementation Awards, organised by the Budget Office to recognise government agencies and public officers for outstanding performance in budget execution, responsible management of public funds, and contributions to nationaldevelopment.

Established in 2024, the awards promote a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement in the implementation of government programmes and projects.

Director of Budget Fiona Hinson said the initiative provides a structured opportunity to celebrate the hard work and achievements of public officers while encouraging agencies to strive for greaterimpact.

The ceremony featured 26 awards across several categories, including budget and revenue execution, project implementation, technical support, fiscal stewardship, and public sector innovation. Recognition was also given for transformative impact in the economic and social sectors, legal services, and excellence in budget execution for the 2025–2026 financial year.

Deputy Director of Budget Swithin Donelly noted that the awards are guided by the principles of fairness, transparency, and performance. In several categories, agencies are assessed according to their size, ensuring that achievements are recognised across different operating environments.

Prime Minister Hon. Philip J. Pierre joined public service leaders in celebrating the accomplishments of public officers. He commended the Budget Office for establishing an initiativethat recognises hard work, initiative, and the contributions of those who serve the country.

The Prime Minister also encouraged public officers to identify opportunities to improve government operations, particularly by simplifying procedures and reducing delays that can affect project implementation and service delivery.

Guest speaker Jonathan Johannes, in his presentation titled The Second Half, challenged public officers to focus on translating plans and budgets into meaningful outcomes. He emphasised that successful implementation should be measured not merely by activities completed, but by the tangible improvements those activities bring to people’s lives.

As Saint Lucia prepares for the next budget cycle, the Budget Office hopes the awards will continue to inspire excellence, strengthen accountability, and encourage innovation throughout the public service.
