Vacancy - Legal Officer
Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for appointment to the post of Legal Officer in a Statutory corporation.
Job Title: Legal Officer
Reports to: The Executive Director
Supervises: Relevant assigned staff of the Authority
Relationship and Responsibilities
  1. Works under the direction of and reports to the Executive Director/Board of Directors
  2. Required to liaise with the Attorney General’s Chambers and Crown Prosecution Office as well as management of the Authority
General duties and Tasks
  1. Legal research
  2. Legal representation in matters relations to anti money laundering and miscellaneous court matters
  3. Assisting with the preparation of various reports as required by legislation
  4. Training and raising awareness of the financial and business sectors on their anti-money laundering obligations
  5. Provide legal advice to the management and staff on matters related to the operations of the Authority
  6. Research and advice on any other matters relating to the work of the Authority as directed by the Board and Executive Director
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  1. Advanced knowledge of and ability to interpret the laws of Saint Lucia including anti-money laundering, terrorism financing and criminal law legislation
Qualifications and Experience
  1. Masters of Law Degree plus a certificate in legal Education or equivalent plus three (30 years’ experience in legal practiceOr
  2. Bachelor of Laws Degree plus certificate in legal education or equivalent plus five (5) years’ experience in legal practice
Experience or qualifications in anti-money laundering will be an asset.
General
Employment will be non-pensionable. Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience will be in accordance with the terms stipulated by the Authority.
Basic salary will be equivalent of grade 16 - 19 in the Public Service depending on qualification and experience. Travel and other allowances will be paid in addition to basic salary.
