SLBS to pilot new process for energy standards

MINIMUM ENERGY PERFORMANCE STANDARDS FOR LIGHTING, REFRIGERATORS TO BE IMPLEMENTED.
by Janelle Norville, GIS

The CARICOM Regional Organization for Standards and Quality (CROSQ), in collaboration with the Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards (SLBS), recently hosted an information session on the establishment of an energy efficiency-labeling scheme.

SLBS Director, Verne Emmanuel, indicated that achieving energy efficiency is one of the ways to ensure that the country’s sustainable goals are met. The labeling scheme will introduce minimum energy performance standards for lighting, refrigerators and air conditioners, and will explore the development and or strengthening of a testing scheme for these appliances. According to CROSQ’s Project Coordinator, Janice Hilaire, the scheme will be piloted in a few islands, and will eventually expand across CARICOM.

The session was held under the theme “Protection of the Consumer – Support the Energy Labelling Scheme for Energy Efficient Equipment and Appliances.”
