by Department of External Affairs
PRIME MINISTER ALLEN CHASTANET WILL OFFICIALLY ASSUME THE CHAIRMANSHIP OF THE CDCC IN 2018.

The Government of Saint Lucia, in collaboration with the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean of the United Nations (ECLAC), will be hosting the fifth meeting of the Caribbean Development Roundtable (CDR) and the 27th session of the Caribbean Development and Cooperation Committee (CDCC) from April 26 to 27, at the Sandals Grande Hotel.

Established in 1975, the CDCC functions as a permanent subsidiary body of ECLAC tasked with promoting development cooperation among Caribbean countries.

The CDCC comprises the Session of Ministers, which is held every two years, and which serves as a forum for considering sustainable development challenges and opportunities in the subregion. The session is preceded by the CDR, at the same venue.

It also comprises the Monitoring Committee held in the intervening years of the Session of Ministers. It was at the 18thย Monitoring Committee Meeting held in May of 2017 that Saint Lucia, represented by the Sen. Hon. Dr. Ubaldus Raymond, Minister in the Ministry of Finance, indicated its readiness to assume the chairmanship of the 27th session of the CDCC in 2018.

Saint Luciaโ€™s Prime Minister, Hon. Allen Chastanet, will officially assume the chairmanship of the CDCC in 2018 in accordance with the principle of alphabetical rotation of member states. As the incoming chair, Saint Lucia is thus expected to host the 27th Ministerial Session of the CDCC on April 27, and the fifth Meeting of the CDR scheduled to take place on April 26.

An estimated number of 80 -100 officials from 16 member states and 13 associate members is expected to participate in these meetings.
