The National Disaster Management Framework, the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO), in collaboration with the Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority (ŠLASPA), and Caribbean Outreach of the Americas Relief Team (ART) will host a Community Port Resiliency Programme (CPReP) Workshop next week.
The objective of the workshop is to improve the resilience of existing systems at the ports, given that recent catastrophic events in the region have highlighted the devastating impact of disasters on port operations and the difficulties experienced in responding to humanitarian and recovery needs. The events have also served to emphasize the significance of ports as critical lifelines and the need to ensure their resilience, both in terms of infrastructure and operations.
As Saint Lucia continues to prepare for the impact of potential hazards, the workshop will facilitate a readiness assessment of the country’s air and sea ports as well existing supporting systems and arrangements for effective preparedness and efficient response. The sessions are also intended to assist with appropriate planning for improving the resiliency of this critical lifeline.
The workshop will he held from June 4 – 5.
