EDUCATION OFFICIALS AIM TO PREVENT DELAYS IN REOPENING IN THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR.
Officials from the Department of Education, on Aug. 13, accompanied the newly appointed Minister for Education, Sustainable Development, Innovation, Science, Technology and Vocational Training, Hon. Shawn Edward; and Parliamentary Secretary Sen. Hon. Dr. Pauline Antoine-Prospere on a tour of several schools.
The delegation met with several school principals and the respective District Education Officers. The objective of the tour was for the Minister and Parliamentary Secretary to get a first-hand look at the present condition of schools with a view to prevent delays in reopening due to ongoing renovation works, and to make note of infrastructural improvements still outstanding.
Minister Edward has stated that all ongoing works will continue and that he looks forward to working with school administrators to seek redress for existing issues.
The Castries Comprehensive Secondary School, Gordon and Walcott Memorial School, Odsan Combined and the Bexon Primary School were some of the schools visited. This tour marks the first of several official tours by the new Minister for Education and Parliamentary Secretary.
Also present on the tour were Permanent Secretary Michelle Charles; Deputy Permanent Secretary, Kendal Khodra; Acting Chief Education Officer, Cirus Cepal; and Superintendent of Works, Ginger Biroo.
