The Season’s Eighth Hurricane is Moving through The Atlantic

HURRICANE OSCAR IS NOT EXPECTED TO BE A THREAT TO LAND.

FLORIDA, United States, Monday October 29, 2018
 – The 16th storm of Atlantic Hurricane season formed late Saturday, quickly becoming the season’s eighth hurricane yesterday and continuing to strengthen this morning, but it is forecast to stay away from land.

As of 11 a.m., Hurricane Oscar was at Category 1 strength with maximum sustained winds near 85 miles per hour. It was located about 590 miles southeast of Bermuda and about 605 miles north northeast of the northern Leeward Islands, and moving towards the west northwest at 7 miles per hour.

The National Hurricane Centre (NHC) in Miami said it expects Oscar to strengthen more, and it could become a Category 2 hurricane with 100 mph winds before beginning to weaken tomorrow.

The hurricane is forecast to turn to the north tonight and then the northeast tomorrow, taking it farther away from the tiny Caribbean island of Bermuda.

The Bermuda Weather Service said in its forecast this morning that east-southeasterly swells will affect the beaches from tomorrow and Wednesday as Hurricane Oscar passes to the distant east.
