SAINT LUCIA’S MINISTER FOR AGRICULTURE ACKNOWLEDGED THE TREMENDOUS ASSISTANCE PROVIDED TO FISHERS BY THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, H.E. Tatsuo Hirayama recently paid a courtesy call to the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security, and Rural Development, Hon. Alfred Prospere.




During their discourse, Hon. Alfred Prospere and H.E. Tatsuo Hirayama discussed areas in which Saint Lucia and Japan can collaborate to develop Saint Lucia’s agriculture sector. Minister Prospere gave a brief update on the current state of Saint Lucian’s agriculture industry as it relates to climate change and the COVID-19 pandemic. He also acknowledged the tremendous assistance provided to Saint Lucia’s fishermen by the Japanese government and expressed hope for the continuation of knowledge transfer through training with the aim of improving Saint Lucia’s agricultural practices.

His Excellency, Tatsuo Hirayama, reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to continue supporting the agriculture industry in Saint Lucia, adding that fisheries, disaster risk management, and climate change are three of the key priority areas for his government.

Japan and Saint Lucia established diplomatic ties in 1980.
