THE DIPLOMATIC RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN GERMANY AND SAINT LUCIA STRENGTHENS.

The newly appointed non-resident ambassador of Germany to Saint Lucia, His Excellency Holger Michael, presented letters of credence to the Governor General of Saint Lucia, His Excellency Sir Emmanuel Neville Cenac.

The occasion was hosted at the private residence of the Governor General.

In presenting his credentials, the German ambassador expressed his government’s dedication to developing Saint Lucia.

“I feel privileged to continue working to further our bilateral relations, and the relations between the European Union and the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States, as well as CARICOM,” he said. “Germany fully supports the agreements of the European Union with both the ACP countries and the CARICOM member states and we are eager to develop them further. If Germany was elected as a member of the United Nations Security Council for the period 2019/20, Germany vigorously would introduce and pursue the topic of climate change and security in this important body. Neither Germany or Saint Lucia alone can master the challenges of global developments such as increased natural disasters. Our governments therefore cooperate regionally in projects towards increasing the resilience, economic prosperity and ecologic sustainability.”

His Excellency, Sir Emmanuel Neville Cenac, expressed his expectations and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the diplomatic relations between Germany and Saint Lucia.

“Were I asked in particular, your support would yield the sweetest fruits for us and for you, I would urge that it be in the field of tourism, for Saint Lucia’s beauty is not easily surpassed, and, therefore, investment in hotel construction can only be rewarding, given also the welcoming spirit of our people. It is my distinct honour to welcome you as Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Saint Lucia, on behalf of the government and people of Saint Lucia and feel certain that my government will spare no effort in its endorsement of your desire to be a member of the United Nations Security Council for the Period 2019/2020.”

His Excellency Holger Michael presented the letters of credence on Tuesday, Feb. 20.
