(Media Release) SLBS to offer training in measurements

by SLBS
THE SLBS RECENTLY HOSTED A STAKEHOLDER SENSITIZATION WORKSHOP ON THE PROPOSED COURSE MODULE.

The Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards (SLBS) is working towards implementing a project to expand its Measurement Science or Metrology services to include training.

The SLBS has designed, through a project with the Caribbean Metrology Group, CARIMET, and the National Metrology Institute of Germany, the PTB, a course module, Introduction to Metrology, for persons whose work activities and decisions are based on correct and reliable measurements.

To this end the SLBS hosted a sensitization workshop on the proposed course module for presentation of the programme to stakeholders. The intention is to get feedback on the goals for the course, the validity of the content included and the teaching method that will be used, and also, to arrive at agreement on learning outcomes.

The SLBS is charged with promoting reliable and accurate measurements in trade and the course is designed specifically for those in sectors which rely heavily on measurements and quality to help them update and improve their skills and knowledge in the application of good measurement practices, as well as correct and reliable results.

Acting Director of the Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards, Mr. Hubert Reynolds, said the SLBS is keen on sharing knowledge with stakeholders to advance a national quality infrastructure. The expansion of SLBS services in metrology supports that effort with an incremental upgrade of capabilities in the areas of length, temperature and pressure measurements.

The introduction of training in metrology is expected to promote and drive advocacy on fairness in trade, accuracy of health measurements, safety, quality control and quality of life.
