CONSTITUENCY REPRESENTATIVE AND COMMUNITY GROUPS PRESENT DONATIONS.

The Parliamentary Representative for Anse La Raye and Canaries, Hon. Dominic Fedee, recently presented a cheque donation of EC$10,000 to a fire victim of Autabon, Anse La Raye, whose home was gutted in a fire.

Orsula Hippolyte’s two story residence was completely destroyed on Nov. 7, leaving at least six persons homeless.

Minister Fedee said:

“On Nov. 7, while representing Saint Lucia at the 2019 World Travel Market in London, I received a distressing video via WhatsApp which showed a house being gutted by fire in the community of Anse la Raye. What was even more heartbreaking was that it was the residence of a constituent whom I know very well. This morning, as Parliamentary Representative for Anse la Raye and Canaries, along with members of the village council, we made a donation of EC$10,000 toward the reconstruction of the home. The family also received donations of school supplies and clothing from the Anse la Raye Women’s Association, and the Anse la Raye Constituency Council. Further assistance will be given as several tradesmen from the community have already agreed to assist with the reconstruction.

“I offer my sympathies to you and to your children, and we stand with the Village Council of Anse-La-Raye to rebuild this house, even stronger.”

The women’s groups of Anse La Raye and Canaries also presented donations including house supplies and school items.

Reeves Lawrence, Deputy Chair of the Anse La Raye Village Council, said other fundraising efforts will be made on behalf of Ms. Hippolyte.

Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Hon. Allen Chastanet commended the Parliamentary Representive and constituents for bringing aid to the victims of the fire.

“I think that my government also recognizes that we have to be able to put a better system in place to help those who have been affected,” he said.

Fire victim Orsula Hippolyte, expressed gratitude to the Government of Saint Lucia for the donation. The handing over took place on Nov. 18.
