Implementing sustainable climate adaptation initiatives

PRIVATE SECTOR ENGAGEMENT IS SEEN AS A PRIORITY.

The Government of Saint Lucia recently recognized the critical role played by the private sector and civil society organizations in the development and implementation of sustainable climate change adaptation initiatives in Saint Lucia.

In light of this, the Government of Saint Lucia engaged social partners in spearheading the development of a Climate Change Private Sector Engagement Strategy. The strategy will identify the key private sector stakeholders that must be involved to help build climate resilience. It will also address the adverse effects of climate change, how they can be best engaged, make recommendations on incentives, and provide guidance on strategic alliances, including through public-private partnerships (PPP).

The private sector engagement initiative is seen as a priority specifically recommended by officials at the NAP Assembly held earlier this year, attended by a number of ministers, permanent secretaries, other heads and a large cross section of stakeholders.

The two-day national consultation ended on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at the Coco Palm Hotel.
