HelpAWS animal rescue is an organization based in Soufriere that is seeking to recruit a self-motivated, dependable, and hands-on professional to join our team in the position of SHELTER SUPERVISOR. This position will report directly to the Operations Manager and work closely with the Executive Director. This job requires a lot of hands-on work with animals in fast paced environment requiring problem-solving skills and an ability to remain calm under pressure.
Job Summary
The Shelter Supervisor will be responsible for supervising a team of five individuals and ensuring that the standards of the shelter are being followed. The job will require a lot of hands-on work with animals, preparing their food and feeding them, assessing their behavior, cleaning up after them, administering medication, and more. We cannot stress enough, you must love animals to do well in this job.
Job Requirements
Applicants will be required to work 11 days per fortnight in Soufriere.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
Must be willing and able to work with all animals including but not limited to dogs, cats, horses, and pigs.
Applicants must be organized and computer literate.
Perform and oversee daily feeding schedules, administration of medications and overall care of all animals
Schedule and administer bathing, laundry and implement sanitizing procedures for animals in care
Complete intake exams for all new animals on property
Monitor health, happiness and comfort levels of animals in care and log all observations in our software
Complete daily/weekly behavioral and medical checklists for animals in care and communicate to adoptions team/relevant parties
Input and maintain each animal record in our software, including personality traits for animal bios as applicable
Register all microchips in our database
Work alongside the Operations Manager to keep accurate inventory for both office and animal care
Ensure shelter staff is adequately trained and managed appropriately
Oversee shelter loss prevention through inventory management
Collaborate with the Operations Manager to compose animal bios and behavioral checklists
Ensure the bookings of all transfer flights are organized on/off the island including cargo and in-cabin opportunities
Serve as the airline liaison for all travel partners, including Air Canada, WestJet and American Airlines
Act as the airport, vet and government liaison for the organization
Prepare kennels, paperwork and volunteers for all incoming/outgoing flights off the island
Independently arrange transportation of animals to veterinary appointments and to the airport
Pursue trap-neuter-release opportunities when available
Serve as an advocate for the welfare of animals around the island
Other duties as assigned

Compensation will be influenced by the successful candidate’s qualification, experience and skill.
