Sandals Grande hosts health fair

THE ORGANIZATION ADOPTED A HOLISTIC APPROACH TOWARD BUILDING HEALTH AWARENESS.

Sandals Grande, with support from the Ministry of Health and Wellness, hosted a grand health fair at its premises on Oct. 31, in observance of breast cancer awareness month.

While the primary focus may have been breast cancer, the Sandals Grande Spa and Beach Resort took a holistic approach to ensure a healthy team.

Venecia Durrant, the Environmental Health and Safety Manager at the Sandals Grande Spa and Beach Resort, explained: “For the entire month of October we have been engaging activities just to bring more awareness to the team members; and so we felt like it was important for us to culminate the month with a grand health fair, an opportunity where team members can undergo breast examination for breast cancer awareness, but also take a holistic approach by encouraging persons to take care of themselves. There were various other health checks like blood pressure checks, blood sugar, and body mass index, and the nutrition department is here with us to give health advice and health tips. There is also family planning and substance abuse information, eye exams, dental exams, and even food care. So all of that encompasses taking care of your body holistically. The team members were appreciative because there was an opportunity where they were able to take a little time to have their health checked.”

Health Educator and coordinator for the event, Nadiege Smith Lambert, said that the fight against breast cancer and other forms of cancer continues.

The Ministry of Health applauds Sandals for championing the cause, and looks forward to continued collaboration in the future.
