The Ministry Education, Innovation, Gender Relations and Sustainable Development has appointed an Interim Board of Governors to the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College with immediate effect.
Minister for Education, Dr. Gale Rigobert, expressed confidence that the Board has the required assets to see the college through the issues requiring immediate attention.
“It was necessary to engage more stakeholders and to allow for greater input into the selection of the new Board,” the minister said.
The Board will function for a period of six months and consists of six individuals: Dr. Jocelyn Fletcher who is the Chairperson, Dr. Rufina Frederick, Dr. Vernesta Nervais, Barrie Corcoran, Dr. Claudia Louis, and Beverly Josie. Dr. Rigobert explained that the board was carefully selected on the basis of expertise and skill.
“I am satisfied now that we’ve been able to select a Board that is equally committed to ensuring that Sir Arthur Lewis remains the premiere tertiary institution on island, but we can’t escape the fact that we’ve got some tough decisions to make. I pray, thanks to the good publicity that Sir Arthur Lewis got recently, that all of Saint Lucia stands ready to work with us to make this happen.”
The minister also expressed her hope that the Board will work closely with the Department of Education and the government in charting a way forward for the institution, with the common goal of providing affordable, exceptional, higher education and related services.
