Media Release: SLALA collaborates on art exhibit

MECURATOR SHOWCASES COLLECTION BY ARTISTS WHO SUFFER FROM THE RESTRICTIVE EFFECTS OF ARTHRITIS.

The MeCurator Art Gallery in collaboration with the Saint Lucia Arthritis and Lupus Association (SLALA) will host an art collection launch titled “Art Thrives Us – A Journey of Art through Arthritis.” The launch will be held on Thursday. Nov. 15, from 7 – 9 p.m.

Saint Lucian art is an un-broached market, with very few artists given the necessary platform to showcase their work. This is not due to lack of talent, as we know there is abundant creativity on the island through various forms of visual culture.

MeCurator holds art at its core. It aims to connect artists, audiences and buyers to Caribbean art. This can be done through regular platforms for art work to be shown by artists of all ages, genders, and abilities.

On Thursday, MeCurator will showcase a collection by talented artists who suffer from the restrictive effects of arthritis, lupus and other physical restrictions. Although the artists are constrained by these ailments, the artists have been able to find mental and physical freedom through expressive art therapy. The month long collection will showcase the works of these artists. All pieces will be available for sale.

Dr Amanda King; psychologist, Nicole Edgecombe; and renowned artist, Peter Walcott; will also share a few words on the night. The launch is focused on raising awareness of the condition, asking people to broaden their minds, and support the work of charities such as SLALA.

Entry to the event is free. Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be available for attendees.

The exhibition will be held at the MeCurator Art Gallery in Massade, Gros Islet. The gallery is located on the same compound as Star Publishing. A red door with the MeCurator logo is accessible from the parking lot, and leads upstairs.
