Media Release: President Tinubu visits the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College

PRESIDENT OF NIGERIA, HE BOLA AHMED TINUBU, PAID AN OFFICIAL VISIT TO THE SIR ARTHUR LEWIS COMMUNITY COLLEGE.

His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, received a warm and culturally-rich welcome during a ceremonial visit to the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC) on Tuesday, July 1. The visit formed part of His Excellency’s official engagements in Saint Lucia and served to deepen educational and diplomatic ties between the two nations.

The Hon. Shawn Edward, Minister for Education, Sustainable Development, Innovation, Science, Technology and Vocational Training, addressed the gathering, noting the symbolic importance of the President’s visit. He emphasized the shared commitment of both nations.

“Your presence here today is a powerful testament to the enduring bonds between Africa and the Caribbean, ties deeply rooted in shared history, culture and aspiration,” he said.

In his address, President Tinubu urged young people to cultivate perseverance.

“The community college is an instrument to fight poverty. Nothing like education can fight poverty; it’s the greatest instrument that we are employed with, to do so,” he advised. “I congratulate the faculty and members of staff for taking thir jobs seriously and commend the students for their determination and commitment. There is nothing that we learn from this college that is better than perseverance, consistency in learning, dedication, spending your time, management of time, and risk. Education is the most valuable resource that you will have in your lifetime, and you will never, never have enough of it.”

The event concluded with a presentation of gifts to the Nigerian president, symbolizing Saint Lucia’s appreciation and goodwill. The atmosphere remained warm and celebratory as attendees expressed hope that President Tinubu’s visit would be the beginning of increased collaboration in education, culture, and development between Nigeria and Saint Lucia.
