Media Release: Minister tours John Compton Dam

by Amanda-Faye Clarke, Ministry of Agriculture
THE FIRST PHASE OF RESTORATION WORK AT THE DAM IS EXPECTED TO BE COMPLETED AT THE END OF JUNE.

Restoration work and upgrades at the John Compton Dam has picked up momentum, said the Head of the Project Management Unit of the Water and Sewerage Company (WASCO). He recently headed a delegation comprising the Minister with Responsibility for Water Resources, Hon Ezechiel Joseph, and other key stakeholders, on a visit to the dam.

Gordon Wyke said the John Compton Dam Project will unfold in two phases. Component one consists of the preparation of the disposal area for sediment, which will allow for a seamless transition onto the second component. The second is the dredging of the reservoir through a pipeline to the disposal area.

According to Wyke, the first component which started in May 2018 is about 60 percent completed. Barring any challenges posed by the weather, Mr Wyke said component one should be completed at the end of June.

The John Compton Dam Project is but one of several projects currently being undertaken by WASCO Inc to modernize and upgrade water services and infrastructure around the island.
