OVER THE YEARS, THE DEMAND FOR LOCAL PRODUCE HAS GROWN SIGNIFICANTLY ON THE FOREIGN MARKET.

The Trade Export Promotion Agency (TEPA) has partnered with the Department of Agriculture and other agencies within the agriculture sector to strengthen ties in an effort to see increases in the trading of local agricultural goods.

On Tuesday, May 15, representatives from TEPA and the Department of Agriculture signed a Memorandum of Understanding to officially begin the process of collaboration which is expected to raise awareness of business opportunities, build partnerships and increase regional and international exports.

Over the last few years it has been recognized that the demands for produce has grown significantly on foreign market and it for this reason the alliance between the two organizations was formed to push the exports of local produce.

As part of the alliance an agricultural export facilitation committee has been established with representatives from several allied agencies including TEPA, the Department of Agriculture, the Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards (SLBS), the Saint Lucia Marketing Board, the Department of Economic Planning and the farmer organizations.

The collaboration between the parties is expected to show an increase in the trade of local produce of up to 20 percent by December 2018.

The agencies are also working with Winfresh and other marketing agencies to create a national initiative. Through the signing of this MOU, a close working relationship with the private sector will be guaranteed to ensure the success of the initiative.
