Antigua – UPP launches campaign and cost-cutting promises

Antigua– The main opposition United Progressive party (UPP) has officially launched
its campaign for the marth 21 general election with party leader Harold Lovell.

โ€œWe are here to sound the gong and declare that the war is on!โ€ Harold Lovell declared when he took the stage during the launch at the Rising Sun ground Sunday night.

The UPP has also targeted the business community with a pledge to reduce corporation tax from 25 percent โ€œto as low as 12 percent in the first termโ€ โ€“ a promise in direct rivalry with one made by the ABLPโ€™s 2018 manifesto promise to reduce corporation taxes from 25 percent to 20 percent.

Lovell added that his party will create four new duty-free zones; English Harbour, Jolly Harbour, Redcliffe Quay, and Barbuda โ€“ changes which, he proposed, would stimulate commerce and in Barbudaโ€™s case, reduce the cost of living.

The UPPโ€™s campaign was launched under the theme โ€œdelivering hope.โ€ It comes more than a week after the prime ministerโ€™s February 24 announcement of the March 21 snap election at his partyโ€™s campaign launch.
