Antigua– The main opposition United Progressive party (UPP) has officially launched
its campaign for the marth 21 general election with party leader Harold Lovell.
โWe are here to sound the gong and declare that the war is on!โ Harold Lovell declared when he took the stage during the launch at the Rising Sun ground Sunday night.
The UPP has also targeted the business community with a pledge to reduce corporation tax from 25 percent โto as low as 12 percent in the first termโ โ a promise in direct rivalry with one made by the ABLPโs 2018 manifesto promise to reduce corporation taxes from 25 percent to 20 percent.
Lovell added that his party will create four new duty-free zones; English Harbour, Jolly Harbour, Redcliffe Quay, and Barbuda โ changes which, he proposed, would stimulate commerce and in Barbudaโs case, reduce the cost of living.
The UPPโs campaign was launched under the theme โdelivering hope.โ It comes more than a week after the prime ministerโs February 24 announcement of the March 21 snap election at his partyโs campaign launch.
