LAMAT Surgical/ Medical Mission Begins Delivering Vital Healthcare Services to Saint Lucians

The mission which is slated to take place from April 27th to May 8th will comprise of 47 health professionals from LAMAT and 4 additional specialists from the Republic of China (Taiwan)

The much-anticipated surgical and medical mission led by the Lesser Antilles Medical Assistance Team LAMAT of the United States Air Forces Southern Medical Mission officially commenced on April 27th with an opening ceremony at the St. Lucia National Mental Wellness Centre. The mission which is slated to take place from April 27th to May 8th will comprise of 47 health professionals from LAMAT and 4 additional specialists from the Republic of China (Taiwan) providing the people of Saint Lucia with free healthcare services in the areas of dental, cardiology, pulmonary and vascular to name a few.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Nutrition Jenny Daniel expressed gratitude to the United States Air Forces and the Republic of China (Taiwan) for their generous support, collaboration and investment in the health and well-being of the people of Saint Lucia. “This mission reflects the strength of international partnership and shared commitment of improving healthcare access and outcomes for our people. The LAMAT surgical mission represents more than just the delivery of medical services. It is an opportunity to strength capacity, provide specialized services and surgical care and offer hope to individuals and families who may otherwise face long waits or limited access to treatment.”

Charge d’affairs of the United States Embassy, Bridgetown, Karin Sullivan says this surgical/ medical mission by LAMAT is a powerful testament of the strong, recurring partnership between the United States of America and Saint Lucia. “The LAMAT mission now on its 4th consecutive year in Saint Lucia demonstrates the strength and value of the partnership and collaboration and reflects a deep commitment in the health and well- being of all. All of you gathered here today, have demonstrated your commitment to these same values and for that, I will like to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation.”

Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to Saint Lucia Her Excellency Nicole Su said it is indeed an honor to have the Taiwan medical experts join forces with the LAMAT team to provide critical care to Saint Lucians, which also signals strengthened cooperation and partnership. “Building on these successful missions/ experiences last year, we are

happy to keep the momentum going. So, this year with the support of our prestigious General Hospital in Taiwan, we have a little bigger and stronger team composed of three Oral Surgeons and one specialized nurse here this year.”

Minister for Health, Wellness and Nutrition Hon. Moses Jn Baptiste thanked the Government of the United States of America and the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) for the medical mission which continues to provide vital healthcare services to families. “I am very pleased and honored to be once again here with a group of volunteers, individuals who have left their work, some of you have left your families, travelled very long distances and you are here in Saint Lucia to assist the people of Saint Lucia. You are here in Saint Lucia to work alongside our professionals and you are here to give service to humanity.”

Over the course of the mission, the team will be undertaking surgical procedures at the Owen King EU Hospital and the St. Jude Hospital. In addition, community dental clinics will be held at the La Clery Wellness Centre and the Anse La Raye Wellness Centre.
