Media Release: Capacity building workshop for Saint Lucia’s Greenhouse Gas Inventory

by Department of Sustainable Development
THE DEPARTMENT OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IS UNDERTAKING A GHG INVENTORY UPDATE FOR 2025.
The Department of Sustainable Development is currently undertaking a comprehensive update of Saint Lucia’s national greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory to align with the country’s reporting obligations under the Paris Agreement.
Under the Paris Agreement, the compilation of greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories is essential for ensuring transparency, accountability, and the effectiveness of global climate action. These inventories provide standardized, quantifiable data on national emissions and removals, enabling countries to track progress toward their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and identify areas for improvement.

By requiring regular and rigorous reporting, the Paris Agreement fosters trust among parties and facilitates the global stocktake process, which assesses collective progress toward limiting global temperature rise. Without accurate GHG inventories, meaningful comparison, cooperation, and climate ambition would be severely undermined.
This month’s capacity building workshop was designed to support Saint Lucia’s efforts to enhance its greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory systems in line with the requirements of the Paris Agreement and the Modalities, Procedures, and Guidelines (MPGs) of the Enhanced Transparency Framework.
