Media Release: SLHTA Chefs in Schools Cook Off, Friday

by TEF
A GROUP OF YOUNG CHEFS WILL REPRESENT SAINT LUCIA AT THE CARIBBEAN JUNIOR DUELING COMPETITION.

On June 15, students from secondary schools across the island will assemble to embrace their date with culinary destiny.

Twelve aspiring chefs will participate in the Chefs in Schools Cook Off Competition at the Ciceron Secondary School from 9 a.m.

In preparation, each school’s team was assigned to a hotel in close proximity to their school to undergo training for the competition. During the competition, each team will be given one hour to prepare a national/signature dish. After the first round, scores will be tallied and the three teams with the highest scores will battle in the second round for the Championship Title. In the second round, the Mystery Basket, students will be awarded one and a half hours to prepare their dish.

If the words of decorated American Chef Thomas Keller ring true, “A recipe has no soul. You, as the cook, must bring soul to the recipe,” then this year’s competition will be the most thrilling of all and in the words of Keller, we expect that the students will add soul to those recipes on competition day.

SLHTA has been able to enhance the value of the Chefs in Schools Cook Off Competition each year, with sponsorship from CPJ Saint Lucia, RJB Hotel and Restaurant Supplies, and Bank of Saint Lucia.

Schools participating in this year’s event include Ciceron Secondary School, the defending champions, Soufriere Comprehensive Secondary School, Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary School, Castries Comprehensive Secondary School, Micoud Secondary School, and Entrepot Secondary School.

The SLHTA, the Tourism Enhancement Fund and the Board of Directors wish all participating students all the best.
