Media Release: Saint Lucia showcases talent throughout Trinidad

THE CAST HOSTED SAINT LUCIA NIGHT ON TUESDAY.

The Saint Lucia Carifesta road show was taken to San Fernando on Monday evening where an appreciative audience experienced the varied talent and creativity of Saint Lucian dancers and musicians.

The performance, at the Napa Rima Bowl in San Fernando, told the story of a people’s resilience after the atrocities of slavery.

CDF Director of Events and Production, Drenia Frederick, said: “The cast performed contemporary pieces. One of those was a piece taken from Saint Lucia Story and adapted, where the slaves are rising out of the sand and going out into the new world. It tells the story of triumph.”

Traveling and performing has been an enriching experience. The performers have had to adapt as they travel to different venues, each unique in its own way. For the Saint Lucians, it is a learning experience—one they hope will inspire a greater love for arts and culture in Saint Lucia. The Saint Lucian cast was also inspired by the deep appreciation of audiences wherever they performed.

“Technical rehearsals were done earlier, and I must commend the team. We had never performed in this space and they adapted well,” Ms. Frederick said. “What we have discovered as we are   going through Trinidad and performing at different places is that there are spaces to suit every performance and what is even more striking is the way that they take care of these institutions. It is also very obvious that there is a general love for the arts, because at 6 p.m. on a Monday, audiences are coming out to these performances and the venues are almost filled.”

Following the performances on Monday, the cast hosted Saint Lucia Night on Tuesday, while the main performance—the staging of A Little Folk Tale—is slated for Friday.
