MAJOR INFRASTRUCTURAL WORKS WILL SOON BE UNDERTAKEN IN THE DISTRICT OF GROS ISLET.

Prime Minister Hon. Philip J. Pierre announced recently that he has reengaged the Government of Kuwait to continue the construction of a portion of the Julian Hunte Highway (JHH), that spans from the Monchy gap to Cap Estate.

The announcement was made during the opening of the Gros Islet Recreational Beach Park on August 15.

“We have re-engaged the Kuwaitis and I have in my possession correspondence from the funders indicating that the loan has been approved for the first stage of the construction of the highway which will start from the Monchy Gap to the Cap entrance. The loan has been approved and very soon you will see the consultants beginning to complete the designs for that road,” the prime minister said.

Along with construction works along the JHH, plans are also underway for the expansion of the Vieux Sucrieux road. The road expansion work is expected to begin in September.

“The Minister of Infrastructure and I have agreed that the Vieux Sucrieux road and the bypass will be expanded. Work will start on that road probably next month [in September]. So as we work on the highway, the bypass road will be expanded, and we’re going to be spending some $23 million on that road.”

Prime Minister Pierre further indicated that additional road infrastructure works will continue in the district of Gros Islet in the coming months.
