PARTICIPANTS UNDERWENT 22 WEEKS OF INTENSIVE TRAINING IN SUBJECT MATTERS RELATING TO ANIMAL HUSBANDRY AND AGRIBUSINESS DEVELOPMENT.

More farmers are now certified agri-entrepreneurs following training in good agricultural practices.

A Farmer Field School graduation exercise was held in the administrative building of the Meat Processing Facility in Vieux Fort, and saw the culmination of 22 weeks of training in swine production.

Twenty-nine individuals completed the programme. The graduation ceremony for swine producers marks the end of the fifth Livestock Farmer Field School to be undertaken by the FAO in the Caribbean.

The Farmer Field School exercise is a joint initiative of the Veterinary and Livestock Services Division of the Department of Agriculture, and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), which seeks to enhance the skillset of livestock producers through hands-on training.

The training began in November 2017 and ended in May, covering 22 weeks of intensive learning in subject matters relating to quality animal husbandry practices as well as agribusiness development.

The latest farmer field school exercise was implemented by the FAO with funding coming from the India, Brazil and South Africa trust fund.
