Media Release: Diplomatic allies donate wheelchairs to VH

by Miguel Mauricette, Ministry of Health
THE MINISTER FOR HEALTH SAID IMPROVING EQUIPMENT WILL REDUCE THE BURDEN ON HOSPITAL PERSONNEL.

On Friday, April 13, ward nine at the Victoria Hospital received four wheel chairs donated by the government and people of Japan.

Minister for Health and Wellness, Sen. Hon. Mary Isaac, said improving equipment conditions will reduce the burden on hospital personnel.

“It is important to have the proper equipment to tend to patients’ needs, and it also facilitates the work of the staff. So whatever reprieve we can get, we have to make it our duty to do so,” she said.

The Minister encouraged other wards in need of wheel chairs, to put in a request.

Medical Director of Victoria Hospital Dr. Alisha Eugene echoed the minister on the importance the wheel chair donation.

“We are thankful for the wheelchairs. Wheel chairs are always in use at the Victoria Hospital. If one visits the hospital you would see that there is a slope that takes patients from A&E up to the wards, so wheel chairs are constantly in use to transport patients up that slope, and it causes wear and tear on our wheel chairs. These new wheel chairs will really assist in making our patients comfortable, and also ease the burden on the porters who are responsible for transporting patients.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Eugene provided an update on the move from Victoria Hospital to Owen King EU Hospital.

“Presently, we are all excited about moving our outpatients department to the new National Hospital. We have been doing a lot of work in the background and we will inform persons as we get closer to the date as it is important for persons to know where to report to, and know their clinic times.”

The scheduled start of the outpatient clinic at the Owen King EU Hospital is April 23.
