ROSEAU, Dominica, Saturday February 10, 2018 – Dominica recently welcomed TUI Cruises’ MV Mein Schiff 3, the first major cruise call to the island and the first vessel to sail into the Roseau Cruise Ship Berth since Hurricane Maria devastated the island last September.
More than 2,000 passengers arrived as the ship made its first of six scheduled calls to Dominica for the 2017/2018 cruise season.
So far, the government, through the Ministry of Tourism and Urban Renewal, has invested over $3 million on restoration of access, rehabilitation and upgrading of sites and clean-up of debris post-Hurricane Maria.
With support from the Ministry of Public Works and Ports, Forestry, Parks and Wildlife Division, National Employment Programme, Dominica Solid Waste Corporation, and other stakeholders in the public and private sector, the destination was prepared to cater for cruise ship passengers on many of the island’s shore excursions, including tours to the famous Emerald Pool, Trafalgar Twin Falls, Bois Cotlette Estate, Titou Gorge, Whale Watching tours and the unique, therapeutic black sand Mero Beach.
A series of cultural performances were organized for passengers throughout the day of Mein Schiff 3’s arrival.
