NASSAU, The Bahamas, Monday December 31, 2018 – A total of 124 Haitian migrants were apprehended early yesterday morning by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) after they were discovered in Bahamian waters.

The Haitians – 107 males and 24 females – were in a 40-foot sail sloop which was intercepted around 3 a.m., approximately eight miles south of New Providence.

The migrants were all handed over to immigration officials for further questioning.

The RBDF has apprehended or assisted in apprehending over 400 Haitian migrants in 2018. Those migrants have since been charged before the courts for illegal landing.

The Royal Bahamas Defence Force said it remains committed to protecting the territorial integrity of The Bahamas and keeping borders secured.
