The Department of Youth Development and Sports has once again began the preparations for the inter school championship.
This year the championship consists of a northern and southern qualifier. The southern qualifier began this week Monday at the La Resource playing field in Dennery whilst the northern qualifier will commence on Thursday at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium.
The Director of Sports, Mr. Patrick Mathurin indicated it is important for persons to support young athletes as they represent their individual schools.
“Do come out to support our young persons, come and support our athletes as they strive to show their best because they have trained hard and we want you to come out to give that level of support; and who knows some of them will go on to the CARIFTA level and as was done before – to the world level.”
The director of Sports also wanted to thank the sponsors for their level of support in the inter secondary schools championship.
“This year Flow has come on board in a big way, we also have Blue Waters who continue to be the main suppliers of water for schools’ sports. Only a month ago we had another conference where they gave a lot of water to schools and they are continuing in that effort. So far they have given us over a hundred cases of water as our main water sponsors. This year we have a new broadcast partner in terms of Winners TV; they have been partnering with us in terms of broadcasting schools sports around the island.”
The inter schools championship will conclude next week with the semi-finals on March 14, and the finals on March 16, at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium.
