Vacancy for Quantity Surveyor for a Property Development & Management Company
Job Summary
Required to provide advice on project costing including costing of preliminary designs, preparing estimates, bill of quantities and tender documents, conducting analysis of bid documents, validating contractor’s claims, preparing variation and final project cost and submitting progress reports.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Undertake comparative costing and cost-in-use exercises at the preliminary stages of projects
  • Prepare preliminary estimates for preliminary designs of approved projects
  • Prepare bill of quantities and tender documents
  • Conduct analysis of bid documents and prepare interim valuations for approved projects
  • Examine and validate claims made by contractors and prepare the certificate for payment
  • Prepare project variations and revise the final costs for projects as required
  • Develop and maintain up-to-date rates for various building trades
  • Provide advice on all matters relating to the costing of projects
  • Prepare progress reports on projects for submission to the Project Services Manager
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Project Services Manager from time to time
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • A working knowledge and understanding of computerized project management, techniques for project scheduling and project evaluation
  • A working knowledge of the principles and practices of project cost analysis
  • Ability to prepare or interpret bill of quantities and tender documents
  • Specialized skills in reviewing and validating payment claims from contractors
  • Ability to operate a computer with appropriate building construction software applications
  • Ability to plan and organize work to meet schedules and deadlines in an environment with constantly changing priorities, analyze situations accurately and take effective action
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • A working knowledge of corporate policies, staff rules and regulations, occupational hazards and health and safety practices
Qualifications and Experience
  • Undergraduate degree or professional qualifications in Quantity Surveying or equivalent
  • Specialized training in project management, construction management, activity based costing and project evaluation
  • At least seven (7) years post qualification working experience in quantity surveying, five (5) of which should be in a supervisory capacity
Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
