St Lucia Speaker of Parliament resigns

St Lucia – The speaker of the St Lucia parliament, Leonne Theodore-John has confirmed the she has resigned her post effective from march 1 this year.

Theodore-John’s resignation comes after nearly two years in the position. She said she is hoping to take up a diplomatic posting at the St Lucia High Commission in London.

“I need to say that it is not a post created for me – it is a post that has been in existence and was filled by Mr (Albert) Fregis during the last labour party administration and since the UWP administration came into office in 2016, the post has not been filled, ” told St Lucia Times online publication.

There have been persistent reports that Theodore-John has been asked to resign over concerns about the way she has dealt with members of both sides of Parliament.

Theodore-John was elected Speaker on July 12, 2016, following the June 12, 2016 general election.
