Media Release: Government encouraged by decline in unemployment

FIRST QUARTER FIGURES FOR 2019 REVEALED A SIX PERCENT DECREASE IN OVERALL UNEMPLOYMENT.

The Government of Saint Lucia is encouraged by recent unemployment assessments from the Department of Statistics.

A recent statement from the department revealed that unemployment in Saint Lucia has seen further declines when compared to the same period last year (Jan-Mar). For the first quarter of 2019, overall unemployment declined from 21.80 percent in 2018, to 15.5 percent this year, while youth unemployment from January to March this year declined from 38.78 percent in 2018 to 25.9 percent in 2019 – a 12 percent decrease.
