THE EIGHT CONTESTANTS WERE SELECTED FOR THE NATIONAL CARNIVAL QUEEN PAGEANT THREE WEEKS AGO, FOLLOWING AUDITIONS.

The annual sashing ceremony for the National Carnival Queen Pageant was held last week Wednesday, at the Landings Resort.

Paula Theophilus, head chaperone of the National Carnival Queen Pageant Committee, said the annual sashing ceremony is where contestants are officially presented to their sponsors.

Three weeks, ago eight contestants were selected for the National Carnival Queen Pageant, following auditions which were held at the National Cultural Centre. The pageant will be held on June 30, as part of activities for Lucian Carnival 2018.

The event falls under the purview of Events Company of Saint Lucia. Thomas Leonce, CEO of ECSL had some words of encouragement for the contestants.

“Some of you have offered to extend yourselves outside of your comfort zone, by agreeing to participate in this pageant. You will be presenting yourselves for critical scrutiny on a stage to about 700 pairs of eyes at the pageant venue and thousands more viewing over the media, and just by doing this you would have already established yourselves as queens in your own right,” Leonce expressed.

Wednesday’s event was the first public appearance of the contestants. Among some of the highlights of the evening, was a special song for this year’s delegates by the reigning Carnival Queen Chancy Fontenelle.

Commenting on the launch, Sen. Hon. Fortuna Belrose, Minister for Local Government and Culture, expressed her pleasure that the bar had been raised this year for the sashing ceremony.

“I know that this is a sign of things to come, especially seeing that last year we had a sold out event and a very successful National Carnival Queen Pageant under the new direction of the Events Company of Saint Lucia and the Cultural Development Foundation,” Belrose said.

The 2018 Carnival Queen Contestants are Pauline Francis – Ms. Massy Stores, Tasha Fanus – Ms. Crystal Clear, Camille Plummer – Ms. MBC, Kianna Nicholas – Ms. Pierre Marcel, Cynthia Lawrence – Ms. Vybe Radio, Earlyca Frederick – Ms. FICS, Tember Cadette – Ms. Bounty Rum, Tangie Butcher – Ms. Piton, and the wildcard Jevani Joseph – Ms. NATO’s Limited.
